The story behind the name of this table ( E1027) is interesting: having studied art, Gray switched to architecture mid-career and designed her home in Roquebrune, France, with her partner Jan Badovici. They named the house E1027 ( E, standing for the first letter of her christian name and the numbers 10, 2, and 7 standing for the alphabetical order of the initials of Jan Badovici ).  She also designed the furniture for the house including the iconic bedside table ( 1929 ) which was also named E1027. In 1972 she was appointed by the Royal Society of Art as Royal Designer to Industry.
