The Connecticut born designer George Nelson believed that "total design is nothing more or less than a process of relating everything to everything..." He also believed in "doing much more with much less."

An example of this thinking can be seen in his Coconut Chair design from 1955 which was inspired by Eero Saarinen's Kresge Auditorium at MIT.  This building had 3 sides and Saarinen's influence found Nelson designing a triangular shaped chair made from a single piece of moulded fibreglass shell. He then went one step further and related its design to a piece of coconut shell!

The chair sits on a base of 3 chromed steel legs. The shell is wrapped in a single piece of foam cushion and covered in our top grade Italian aniline leather.

Our products are reproduced to the style of the original design.
