Arne Jacobsen Inspired Desk Lamp

669d6e0d8b124c02725b1fb042672354 When Arne Jacobsen designed this iconic lamp for the Royal SAS Hotel, Copenhagen in 1960, he created it with the practicalities of everyday living in mind.

Today, the design that he created would never see it's way off a sketchpad; it simply wouldn't be acceptable or probably very useful. What's so different about it? Well, it contains a design feature that one would never in a million years see in a 21st century designed lamp; a cut out hole in the base, designed to hold...an ashtray!

Funnily enough, the hole adds a lightness and elegance to the design and the thought process behind it adds to it's retro appeal!
