CA Design at home: The Kyle Residence by Susan Cotter Design

There’s always something special about seeing a piece leave the showroom and become part of a finished home.
In the Kyle Residence, a recent project by Susan Cotter Design in Co. Laois, several CA Design pieces have found their place within a home that feels calm, warm and full of character.
Designed as a forever home for a young family, the project began with a brief for Scandinavian calm with confident pops of colour - modern and fresh, without ever feeling clinical or overly formal.
The result is a home where natural materials, warm timber and softer neutral tones sit alongside deep reds, rusts and copper shades - with furniture used to bring even more personality into the spaces.
Elbow Stools
The open-plan kitchen immediately sets the tone.
Deep Preference Red cabinetry by Farrow & Ball is paired with a slatted timber island, pale worktops and natural textures, creating a space that feels bold without becoming heavy.
Our Elbow Stools sit along the island, bringing in a lighter timber tone and a clean Mid-Century silhouette.
Their curved backs and simple proportions work beautifully against the stronger colour and texture elsewhere in the room, adding warmth while keeping the space feeling open.
A Mid-Century moment in the living room
Moving into the living area, rust and copper tones give the room a softer, warmer feel.
Our Mid-Century Armchair in orange leather feels completely at home here. The leather tone picks up the colours running through the wider scheme, while its timber frame introduces another natural material into the space.
It’s a piece with plenty of presence, but because the form is so simple, it doesn’t compete with the rest of the room.
The Ethnicraft Geometric Side Table
Beside the armchair sits the Ethnicraft Geometric Side Table.
Its darker finish and sculptural base create a beautiful contrast against the orange leather and timber frame of the chair.
The combination is a lovely example of something we always encourage at CA Design - not feeling that every piece in a room needs to come from the same collection, period or material.
Often, it’s the contrast that makes a space interesting.

A home that feels collected
What we particularly love about the Kyle Residence is that every room feels considered without feeling overly designed.
Susan Cotter Design describes the finished home as both calm and characterful, and that balance really comes through.
There are strong colours and distinctive pieces, but also quieter materials and plenty of breathing room. Mid-Century furniture sits alongside contemporary design, lighter woods alongside darker finishes and soft upholstery alongside more sculptural forms.
It’s a great example of how a home can feel cohesive without everything matching.
And ultimately, that’s something we believe strongly at CA Design too - choose pieces you genuinely love, let your home develop over time and create something that feels like you.
