Marble is a naturally porous stone and requires a little extra care to protect it from staining, scratching and everyday wear.

Sealing your marble

Our CA Design Mid-Century marble tables are sealed during manufacture with a polyester coating. We recommend re-sealing your table when you receive it using Akemi Worktop Stain Repellent Nano Sealer, and approximately every 6–12 months thereafter, depending on wear and use.

The sealant can be applied at home with a cloth and does not require professional application. Our Marble & Granite 3 Step Care Kit is also available to purchase online.

Everyday care

Wipe spills immediately with warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid, then dry thoroughly with a microfibre cloth.

Avoid wax polishes, which may discolour the stone. Instead, use products specifically designed for marble.

Take particular care with acidic liquids such as wine, fruit juices, dressings and condiments. Never place hot cookware directly onto marble and avoid dragging stainless steel or sharp objects across the surface as they may scratch it.

A mild abrasive suitable for marble may be used for minor scratches.

Important: Our Mid-Century marble tables are designed for indoor use only. Extreme temperatures and hard impacts may fracture marble.

Wood is a natural material, so variations in grain, colour and texture are part of its character. Different finishes require slightly different care, so check which applies to your piece before using any treatment or cleaning product.

An oiled finish protects the timber while allowing the natural texture and grain of the oak to remain visible and tactile.

Everyday care

Dust regularly with a dry cloth. For cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with a gentle natural soap, working in the direction of the grain, before drying with a clean cloth.

Wipe spills promptly and use coasters and placemats to protect against heat and moisture.

Avoid harsh detergents, chemical cleaners, abrasive products and excessive water. Never allow liquids to sit on the timber.

Good to know: Oiled wood may require periodic maintenance to refresh its protective finish. For Ethnicraft furniture, follow the specific manufacturer's instructions for your piece.

A varnished finish provides an additional layer of protection to the timber, making it more resistant to everyday use.

Natural teak is a durable timber that develops character as it ages.

When untreated teak is exposed to the elements, it will naturally develop a silver-grey patina over time. This is a natural change in appearance and does not mean the timber has deteriorated.

Everyday care

Clean regularly with a soft cloth and gentle products suitable for teak to prevent dirt from building up.

If you prefer to maintain more of the timber's original colour, a specialist teak protector may be used where recommended for your particular piece.

Varnished or waxed teak has a protective surface finish and should be treated differently from untreated natural teak.

For deeper cleaning or conditioning, only use products specifically designed for furniture leather and suitable for your particular type of leather.

Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Don't rub, as this can spread the liquid further into the leather.

Avoid household cleaning sprays, detergents, abrasive cleaners and excessive water.

For Ethnicraft leather furniture, follow the manufacturer's specific care instructions and recommended products.

Regular light maintenance can make a big difference to the appearance and longevity of upholstered furniture.

Remove dust and crumbs gently using a soft brush or vacuum with a soft upholstery attachment on a low suction setting.

Spills & stains

Act quickly. Blot as much of the spill as possible with a clean, dry white cloth — never rub.

For stains, gently blot using a clean, slightly damp white cloth, working from the outside of the stain towards the centre.

Avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Don't automatically machine or hand wash removable covers unless the individual care label specifically states that they are washable.

Some fabrics may naturally pill with use. This can usually be carefully removed using an appropriate fabric de-pilling tool.

Always check the care label supplied with your individual piece before cleaning.

Glass and metal surfaces are generally straightforward to maintain, but gentle cleaning will help prevent scratching and damage to their finishes.

For glass, use a suitable glass cleaner and soft cloth. Spray the cleaner onto the cloth rather than directly onto the furniture, particularly where glass meets timber or metal.

For metal surfaces, use a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry thoroughly afterwards.

Avoid abrasive sponges, scouring pads and harsh chemical cleaners. Never drag objects across glass or metal surfaces and use coasters or protective pads beneath decorative objects where appropriate.

Take particular care around the edges of glass surfaces and avoid hard impacts.

Good to know: Hand-finished and metal surfaces can have subtle variations in tone and texture which form part of their character.

Outdoor furniture is designed to withstand more demanding conditions, but regular maintenance and protection will help keep it looking its best.

Outdoor teak

Untreated teak will naturally develop a silver-grey patina when exposed to sun and rain. Specialist teak cleaners and protectors may be used where recommended if you'd prefer to maintain more of its original appearance.

Outdoor fabrics & cushions

Clean using clear water and a gentle natural soap where appropriate. Always check the care label before washing removable covers, as instructions vary between fabrics and products.

When not in use

During prolonged periods of bad weather or when your furniture won't be used for some time, protect or store it appropriately.

Always allow furniture and cushions to dry fully before covering or storing them to prevent trapped moisture.
