The Chief-style chair is a replica, and draws inspiration from the original iconic Chieftain Chair, which is one of Finn Juhl's most outstanding works and represents the pinnacle of his career as a furniture designer. When it was introduced in 1949, the chair marked a renewal of Danish furniture design traditions and is now widely regarded as one of the most important examples of the Danish Modern movement in the United States during the 1950s. As a result, Finn Juhl is often referred to as the father of Danish Modern.
The Chieftain Chair, influenced by modern art, features organic shapes that depart from traditional Danish furniture design and strict functionalism in terms of shape, construction, and materials.
